Base Location: Shetland or Flexible Scotland. (Our preference is that you will be based at our Viking Wind Farm in Shetland however applications are welcomed from applicants in Scotland who are willing to travel to Shetland on a routine basis.)
Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + car/car allowance (If applicable) + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role: The Operations Manager is a critical role within SSE’s Onshore Asset Management team, with accountability for the safe, compliant, and high-performing operation of our onshore wind portfolio across the GB North Region. As part of the Site Operations team, you’ll lead the performance of key assets—including Viking Wind Farm in Shetland—playing a direct role in delivering clean, secure energy and supporting the UK’s net zero ambitions. This is an opportunity to take real ownership of a diverse portfolio, lead talented teams, and make a visible impact on operational performance, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of site supervisors, building a high-performing, engaged, and safety-focused culture where people can thrive.
- Champion SSE’s Safety Values, setting the standard for safe operations and driving meaningful, measurable improvements across teams and contractors.
- Own and manage site budgets end-to-end, balancing cost control with performance to deliver strong commercial outcomes.
- Drive asset performance, maximising availability and reliability to meet and exceed renewable generation targets.
- Play a key role in shaping the future portfolio—working closely with project and engineering teams to ensure new sites are fully prepared for a successful transition into operations.
You have:
- A degree in an engineering discipline (or equivalent experience), with strong experience in a similar operational leadership role.
- A background in wind operations, power generation, or the wider energy sector.
- A proven track record of leading high-performing teams and delivering results in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to make informed decisions and influence stakeholders across the business.
- Experience managing budgets, with a clear understanding of financial performance and cost optimisation.
- A full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel regularly across sites in the North of Scotland & Shetland is essential.
