Base Location : Flexible UK & Ireland | We’re proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base ‘home’ location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around the UK and Ireland. Working Pattern :Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available The role will focus on bringing legacy building stock into the 21st Century by designing Buildings as an Energy System. Our projects support large buildings, campuses or developments across the UK. You’ll combine a meticulous attention to detail, experience in construction and a passion for people, managing various stakeholders which will require outstanding organisational skills. We are targeting rapid growth in this part of the business, and beginning a transformation process, focussing on non-domestic energy systems. Reporting directly to the Energy System Business Manager, the Operations Manager will be a pivotal role in positioning SSE as a provider of choice. You will be responsible for leading a team of Project Development Mangers in Project Management Excellence – adhering to the industry best standards. Helping to develop new propositions and partnerships with public and private sector organisations across the UK. The role will involve bringing together areas of different expertise and working with internal stakeholders, experts, and external partners to ensure the proposition is developed in line with our customers’ needs and our strategy. The role will be the main client interface through the proposition/bid phase leading contract negotiations to contract close and procurement. You will manage supporting teams to ensure that propositions/bids are delivered on time and positions taken during negotiation are signed off by the business. You will be responsible for achieving internal approvals in line with SSE and business governance processes; ensuring projects meet deadlines, satisfy client’s energy priorities and delivered to budget. Your responsibilities will include: Develop project governance and management with direct reports and central operations teams. Ensure clear briefing and buy-in from senior managers within SSE Energy Customer Solutions, maintaining ongoing sponsorship for projects. Collaborate with colleagues across various business verticals (Distributed Energy, EV, Heat Networks, Business Energy, Energy Customer Solutions, Digital Services) to build and develop client-focused propositions that leverage SSE’s cross-business capabilities. Monitor the market to identify emerging technologies and solutions that SSE can exploit. Incorporate client drivers and market intelligence into all propositions and bids, ensuring successful transition from initial bid to project delivery. What do I need? To be considered for this role, we would love you to have: Lead and manage high-performing project teams across multiple disciplines, ensuring successful project delivery. Proven ability to bring together and manage complex propositions that span multiple areas of expertise. Strong understanding of EU and UK policy frameworks related to heat, energy, carbon, and construction. Experience calculating and assessing commercial opportunities and associated risks. Skilled in resource planning, partner collaboration, and effectively communicating complex projects to internal stakeholders for governance approval.
