Base Location: Perth Training Centre, Perth - Occasional travel across Scotland (all costs covered)

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available - The standard work pattern for this role is 37 hours per week across 4 days (Monday to Thursday), however alternative work patterns can be considered.

The Role

This role is suited to an experienced Overhead Linesperson who is ready to take the next step; moving from delivering operational work to developing the people who carry it out. As an Overhead Line Trainer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our teams operate safely and competently, delivering training and assessments that directly support our operational standards across the business. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced environment. It requires strong technical credibility, confidence working with people, and the ability to respond to changing training demands.

  • Deliver training and carry out assessments to ensure colleagues and contract partners can operate safely and effectively.
  • Support the ongoing competence and authorisations of operational staff through structured training and review cycles.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of training materials, ensuring alignment with current rules, procedures and best practice.
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert, providing guidance on the application of operational procedures.
  • Work with a range of stakeholders to maintain high standards of safety and performance.
  • Work in a fast-paced delivery environment, where priorities can shift at short notice.
  • Have a mix of classroom, practical and assessment-based training.
  • High levels of autonomy, you’ll be trusted to manage your delivery and approach with support as required from your manager.
  • Responsibility for high-stakes training and assessment that directly impacts operational safety.

You will have:

  • A technical background in the Overhead industry.
  • Recently held Overhead authorisations including authorisations to operate on the Low Voltage Network.
  • Strong knowledge of Operational Safety Rules and supporting procedures.
  • The credibility and confidence to challenge, guide and develop others.

Desirable:

  • Experience delivering training, coaching or assessing others.
  • A Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent).
  • A recognised safety qualification or strong understanding of UK safety regulations.
  • Recently held Hot Glove or Live Line Authorisations.

We’re open to candidates who have not worked as trainers before, provided you can demonstrate the communication skills and mindset required to develop into the role. Full support will be provided to build your capability as a trainer.
