Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office - Perth, Glasgow, Inverness or Aberdeen.
Salary: £58,100 - £75,000 + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.

The role of Senior Protection and Control Engineer is to focus on project delivery and support across a portfolio of different schemes. While the role includes direct project involvement it is also a role which requires provision of guidance, mentoring and point of escalation for Project Engineers.
You will:
- Provide senior technical guidance directly to projects and ensure successful output of Protection and Control deliverables.
- Lead in defining the scope, project approach and resolution of key risks across the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV transmission network in our licence area.
- Execute complex assignments requiring the use of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment, and/or technological methods.
- Implement and comply with CDM procedures and practices, and all other regulatory requirements associated with the nature of substation and electrical system design.
- Produce detailed Substation Protection & Control design packages compliant to client and national technical standards including Scope, Specifications and Key Line Diagrams; Scheme Designs; Protection Settings for new build substations as well as modification to existing.
- Support in the mentoring and guidance for less experienced engineers within the team, to support in the growth of Protection and Control capability within the business and proactively manage consultants and contractors to drive decision making.
You have:
- Demonstrable experience in Protection and Control engineering including development, design, specification and settings of transmission level protection and control systems, preferably including the use of IEC 61850 with clear ability to technically assess issues, and critically produce a range of technical solutions.
- A keen focus on standardisation and driving continuous improvements in business processes, procedures and systems and a passion for developing junior staff.
- Experience in organising or delivering training and development for protection and control engineers would be preferable.
- Understanding of the technical requirements for design, planning, operation and development of the transmission network and aspects requiring coordination with other project disciplines.
- Effective communication skills, and you must be able to communicate often complex technical issues clearly and concisely to facilitate decision making by senior management.
- Chartered Engineer accreditation with a relevant institution or a clear plan for working towards this.
