The role:
SSEN Transmission are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Operations Engineer, to join our dynamic Network Operations team on a permanent basis. In this vital role, you will play a key part in the delivery of the Operations, Maintenance and Commissioning of all HVDC & FACTS currently in service, and those that are currently in project execution phase. The successful candidate shall also support the execution of HVDC and FACTS Service Level Agreements for the Network Operations team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the success of a forward-thinking team while developing your skills in the energy sector.
You will:
- Support the Transmission Operations team regular engagement with HVDC & FACTS Projects at Gate stages and attend regular design review/HAZID /HAZOP meetings ensuring Operations & Maintenance requirements are embedded into project designs.
- Provide key support for Large Capital Projects with the witnessing of Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests for Primary Plant / Secondary Systems / Auxiliary Systems as required for HVDC & FACTS assets.
- Support the development of Standard Operation Procedures (SOP's) for the installation, commissioning, inspection and maintenance of HVDC & FACTS assets.
- Where necessary provide first line support in the event of alarms and trip events for HVDC & FACTS assets.
- Lead the coordination and supervision of Contractors performing fault location, emergency repair and defect remedials works associated with HVDC & FACTS assets.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure asset integrity is maintained, and that contractors and internal stakeholders are complying with industry HSE regulations, SSEN Safe Systems of Work, also CDM and ESQC Regulations.
You have:
- Technical knowledge of HVDC, FACTS or large-scale transmission systems, including outage management and network operations.
- Proven experience managing contractors, OEMs and large operational or project programmes, including safety and performance outcomes.
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks, safety legislation (e.g. CDM), and performance incentives within a regulated industry.
- Degree-level qualification or Time Served Experience in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience), with strong analytical, commercial and decision-making capability.
- Ability to communicate across all levels with both internal and external stakeholders, paired with effective organisation capabilities to deliver quality work to the agreed timescales.
