Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based out of one of our Scottish locations – Glasgow, Perth, Inverness, or Aberdeen.

Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing, and family.

The role: As part of SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme of works, we’re looking for a System Design HV (Plant) Engineer to join our Offshore Project Engineering team to help drive forward our HVDC projects and who can bring big ideas, new skills and innovative thinking to help us grow our teams to successfully deliver a network for Net Zero.

  • Review and approve technical requirements for HVDC/AC system design and plant/equipment, ensuring coordination with other engineering disciplines.
  • Provide specialist technical support across projects, including resolving technical issues, reviewing contractor designs, and participating in key safety and design sessions (HAZID/HAZOP/HAZCON).
  • Contribute to defining, verifying, and confirming the design basis and project scope throughout construction, installation, testing, and commissioning stages.
  • Support site and installation activities by attending critical testing phases (FAT, SAT, commissioning) and ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance (including CDM).
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to support HVDC and AC projects, leveraging experience in AC Balance of Plant and (ideally) HVDC commissioning/engineering.

You have:

  • A BEng/BSc (or higher) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Proven technical ability from key roles in AC or HVDC protection and control, including OEM experience.
  • Demonstrable technical skills in AC or HVDC protection and control specification and scheme design.
  • Effective communication, manage time and priorities well and takes part in the development of junior engineers to build technical excellence across the team and business.
