The role: As part of our Net Zero journey, the Onshore AC Project Engineering team is seeking a Senior Substation Project Engineer to join our new Customer Connections team. You will:

  • Provide expert Substation engineering leadership, helping drive the rapid and consistent delivery of multiple Customer Connection projects through clear, standardised design processes and practical, value‑adding technical input.
  • Support and mentor early‑career engineers, sharing your expertise to build capability within the team and fostering a culture of learning, collaboration and continuous improvement across the Substation discipline.
  • Lead and assure Substation design development, championing standardisation, guiding the implementation of innovative approaches — including modular substation solutions — and working closely with key stakeholders to agree efficient, repeatable technical outcomes.
  • Contribute to senior technical reviews and approvals, including Connection Scopes of Work, providing informed and pragmatic oversight to Project Engineers, and external design consultants to ensure designs are robust, efficient and aligned to programme needs.
  • Build strong relationships across project teams and delivery partners, ensuring high standards of engineering practice, compliance with CDM requirements, and a smooth, consistent interface between design and delivery that supports fast, reliable handover of new assets.

You have:

  • Demonstrable experience in Transmission Substation development, design, and specification across both GIS and AIS, with a focus on full life cycle design from feasibility through to detailed design and commissioning.
