The predicted salary is between 25000 - 30000 ÂŁ per year.

Base Location: Slough, Theale, West London

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | 37 Hours Per Week

Total Reward package during training: Circa ÂŁ44k OTE. Base salary: ÂŁ29,504 - ÂŁ34,757 + overtime + standby payments.

Total Reward package once qualified: Circa ÂŁ51k OTE. Base salary: ÂŁ34,749 - ÂŁ40,939 + overtime + standby payments.

Jointer Programme

The programme can take 18 to 24 months, depending on your personal capabilities, and is centred on an initial course at our training school followed by buddying with an experienced cable jointing team where you will build a portfolio of work that will allow you to gain authorisations to work on the network. By the end of the programme, you will have gained valuable on‑the‑job experience, learned new skills, and earned an industry‑recognised qualification, enabling you to build a rewarding and successful career in the energy sector and contribute to the delivery of NET ZERO.

This role can be demanding; you’ll be required to respond quickly to emergency situations. This will involve working outdoors in all weather conditions with a requirement to undertake out‑of‑hours standby duties and short‑notice attendance for storm situations.

During your Jointer training programme, you will have the opportunity to build on your existing skills and experiences gained in other industries. The training offers a mix of technical, academic and on‑the‑job training which is provided by our dedicated training school. Our programme enables you to earn while you learn, whilst also gaining vital experience and skills as you study towards a nationally recognised qualification.

What is the Role?

A Cable Jointer is at the heart of our network, helping us to power change by maintaining and upgrading the electricity network. SSEN are currently looking for Jointers Mate, upskilling to Cable Jointers to join our Southern Electric Power Distribution team. This is an opportunity to develop an exciting career and further authorisations within SSEN.

The Role Will Include

  • Cable preparation for cable jointing and cable termination into transformers or switchgear.
  • Assisting experienced Cable Jointers on our HV & LV Network, undergoing training while they joint both HV (11KV–33KV works) and LV (415V–1000V), carrying out jointing, cabling and excavation work on a pre‑planned and quick‑response basis, which from time to time may require an overnight stay.
  • Assisting with maintenance/refurbishment and preparation of electrical equipment within substation compounds.
  • Being responsible for the safety of yourself and colleagues, acting as an ambassador for a strong safety culture in everything you do.
  • Being customer‑focused and acting as a strong ambassador for SSE Power Distribution, providing excellent customer service with a flexible approach when called upon for fault conditions.

  • You will be flexible in your approach to work and understand the need to complete tasks effectively, to a high standard of quality whilst observing the highest levels of health and safety adherence.

Regular travel is required; we can only accept applications from candidates that hold a current driving licence.
