The Role

This role is suited to an experienced Senior Authorised Person who is ready to take the next step; moving from delivering operational work to developing the people who carry it out. We will also consider staff who are yet to achieve Senior Authorised Person but are working towards it and have experience of working on and around the Distribution Network.

As a Technical Trainer, you'll play a key role in ensuring our teams operate safely and competently, delivering training and assessments that directly support our operational standards across the business. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced environment. It requires strong technical credibility, confidence working with people, and the ability to respond to changing training demands.

You will:

  • Deliver training and carry out assessments to ensure colleagues and contract partners can operate safely and effectively.
  • Support the ongoing competence and authorisations of operational staff through structured training and review cycles.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of training materials, ensuring alignment with current rules, procedures and best practice.
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert, providing guidance on the application of operational procedures.
  • Work with a range of stakeholders to maintain high standards of safety and performance.
  • Work in a fast-paced delivery environment, where priorities can shift at short notice.
  • Have a mix of classroom, practical and assessment-based training.
  • Enjoy high levels of autonomy, managing your delivery and approach with support as required from your manager.
  • Be responsible for high-stakes training and assessment that directly impacts operational safety.

You will have:

  • Recently held authorisations up to and including Senior Authorised Person or working towards this level of Authorisation.
  • Strong knowledge of Operational Safety Rules and supporting procedures.
  • The credibility and confidence to challenge, guide and develop others.

Desirable:

  • Experience delivering training, coaching or assessing others.
  • A Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent).
  • A recognised safety qualification or strong understanding of UK safety regulations.

We're open to candidates who have not worked as trainers before, provided you can demonstrate the communication skills and mindset required to develop into the role. Full support will be provided to build your capability as a trainer.

Why consider this role

  • A genuine opportunity to step out of day-to-day operations and shape how work is delivered across the business.
  • High levels of trust and autonomy in how you deliver your role.
  • Clear opportunities for long-term progression, including potential to move into leadership roles.
  • The chance to use your experience to develop others and influence standards at scale within a large organisation.
