The predicted salary is between 50100 - 75100 £ per year.

Base Location: You’ll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations: Dublin, Perth, Glasgow or Reading.

Salary: €65,300 - €97,900 (£50,100 - £75,100) + performance‑related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible – First options available.

The role: SSE’s in‑house legal function operates across the SSE Group to ensure business actions and behaviours are aligned to business priorities, are legally sound and reinforce a culture of integrity, quality, responsibility and ethical behaviour. We identify and rationalise legal risk, providing advice on both regulatory and statutory obligations, all whilst helping the business to achieve its strategic goals.

This role aims to assist the team and Client(s) in achieving their goals and objectives by providing high‑quality, pragmatic legal advice and services to the best of our ability, pursuant to the key accountabilities using their required business knowledge, skills and expertise.

  • Draft a blend of standard and bespoke documentation and advice.
  • Project‑manage small to medium‑sized projects and handle a workload that consists predominantly of medium to high risk / priority work, while progressing towards building a higher priority / more complex workload.
  • Become a first point of contact for Clients and build a reputation for prompt and thorough responses and a high‑level service, working to increase their exposure to key stakeholders within their business unit(s) and at an SSE Group level.
  • Increase tactical awareness, knowing when to seek instruction from Clients and when to step back from the detail to spot wider implications, trends, problems and opportunities.
  • Work alongside external legal counsel, comfortably instructing their advice where necessary in accordance with internal policy and managing their appointment with supervision from the Line Manager.
  • Develop a deeper and broader knowledge of legal, business and practical issues pertinent to the Client(s) and the work that is carried out by the team, continually striving to develop personally with relevant CPD.

You have:

  • LLB and Diploma in Legal Practice with relevant post‑qualifying experience.
  • Qualified solicitor in Ireland with circa 0–5 years PQE (or GB qualified lawyer with the ability to obtain a practising certificate in Ireland).
  • Commercial contracts experience, with strong drafting and negotiating skills.
  • Experience of IT contracts and data protection beneficial but not essential.
  • Team player who can support both colleagues on the legal team and stakeholders across the business.
  • Highly organised and efficient, with clear communication skills and sound commercial judgment/awareness, the ability to work on one’s own initiative or as part of a team.
