Base Location: Perth or Edinburgh

Salary: £58,100 – £81,100 depending on skills and experience + annual bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role

We are looking to recruit a talented team member as a Senior Energy Trader with a genuine interest in developing their career with one of the UK\\\’s top energy companies. As a Senior Energy Trader, your primary focus will be to help ensure our energy portfolio is economically managed and is viable in the marketplace. To do this you will carry out market transactions to manage the risk and seek trading opportunities within the GB and EU energy markets. Additionally, you will carry out trading analysis to support investment making process, as well as develop and deliver new market-based trading strategies. This will include providing advice to senior management and other SSE business units on market conditions and make recommendations towards hedging strategies.

You will

  • Carry out financial and physical transactions across energy products in the GB and EU energy markets. Youll implement trading and hedging strategies via brokers and screen-based exchanges, within company approvals, drawing on your experience and insights.
  • Optimise SSEs businesses to maximise profit & minimise losses through examination of key market fundamentals.
  • Contribute to budget targets by developing and executing trading strategies, and assist in enhancing models
  • Guide market and counterparty intelligence reporting, including supply chain analysis and report on competitor and customer commercial strategies.
  • Collaborate across the desk and provide support across all products when needed.

You have

  • A successful track record in a trading environment related capacity along with and demonstrable knowledge of industry players, industry structure and commercial mechanisms and drivers.
  • Ideally, a degree in a numerical discipline such as Mathematics, Science, Engineering, or Economics
  • Proven analytical and communication skills, with proficiency in MS Office. Familiarity with programming tools like VBA, databases, Python, or similar is a plus.
  • Energy and will to succeed, with proven examples of overcoming obstacles to successful outcomes, individually and as part of a team, in a high paced environment.
  • Meticulous, responsible and reliable with a close attention to detail and fundamental respect for internal and external governance.
