The role SSE Renewables operate the largest fleet of hydro‑electric power assets across eight hydro schemes in Scotland. Our portfolio totals 1,459MW of installed capacity, which includes pumped storage and flexible hydro. Our assets consist of some of the most iconic power station sites constructed, which brought hydro‑electric power to the Scottish Glens 80 years ago.
As Hydrometric Specialist, you'll be accountable for the management of a hydrometry network (water level, flow and rain) as well as large amounts of associated data and information. The role is predominantly office based, but you would also occasionally require to travel across the SSE Hydro area.
Some of your main accountabilities will include:
- The management of a programme of activities for the maintenance of a large hydrometry network.
- Undertaking hydrometric / hydrological data analysis in support of the purpose of the data collection activities.
- Preparing quality assurance and auditing activities surrounding data and maintenance.
- Liaising with contractors as well as SSE internal teams.
To be successful in this role, we would like you to have:
- A good knowledge of hydrology with an understanding of upland catchments especially valuable.
- A good knowledge of hydrometry, ideally including field work experience, flow rating development and data interpretation.
- An understanding of SHE (safety, health and environment) for work activities in and near water.
