Base Location: Inverness

The role

We have an opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our Procurement & Commercial team supporting our Operations Team with the responsibility for implementing commercial and contractual management for our Highland Region. This role offers an exciting opportunity to play a key part in managing contracts and delivering value across a diverse range of projects. You will ensure contracts are executed in line with internal governance and industry best practices, supporting our drive for value engineering, safety, and cost efficiency.

You’ll be an enthusiastic, delivery focused individual with strong commercial acumen and technical understanding of construction principles, including well-developed interpersonal, problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills gained from working as a contracts/commercial manager or quantity surveyor in the construction industry.

You will:

  • Support and manage supplier and contractor relationships, liaising with internal and external stakeholders across projects.
  • Deliver commercial support across allocated projects, including estimating, cost and budget management, contract administration, and dispute resolution.
  • Lead or support sourcing events, negotiate contract terms, and ensure full lifecycle contract management to secure best value and manage risk.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying cost reduction opportunities, ensuring compliance with internal policies, and supporting departmental KPIs.

You have:

  • Demonstrable understanding of UK construction contracts. Experience of working with the NEC ECC forms of contract or similar is preferred together with the ability to research, gather and present information both verbally and written on contracts.
  • Experience in bottom-up costing, cost and budget management, pre and post contract administration, contract negotiation, claims and commercial programme and risk management.
  • Excellent IT skills including knowledge of all MS Office applications. (Experience in the use of proprietary purchase systems would be beneficial).
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying is preferred; however, candidates with other relevant construction related degrees with appropriate experience will be considered.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage across teams, challenge constructively, and build strong supplier/stakeholder relationships.
