The role:
We are seeking a Portfolio Optimisation Analyst to support the development and implementation of the Portfolio Optimisation function within SSE Energy Markets. The role sits within the Portfolio Optimisation team, which is responsible for owning group-level portfolio positioning and earnings exposure across SSE Energy Business Units.
The role supports the development and implementation of portfolio strategy, earnings modelling, and hedging execution, working closely with Front Office, Market Risk, and other Energy Markets functions. A key aspect of the role is contributing to the translation of portfolio analysis and market insights into positioning decisions and trading instructions, whilst balancing risk and ensuring the SSE portfolio is managed in line with group objectives.
You will:
- Partner with trading teams to support portfolio positioning across power, gas, carbon, and related products, helping align activity with wider group strategy and ensuring clear, shared understanding of approach and intent.
- Collaborate closely with Middle Office colleagues to shape and maintain target hedge rates and support thoughtful allocation of exposures across business areas.
- Contribute to the development and ongoing enhancement of a portfolio earnings model, including central forecasts and scenario analysis to support informed, forward-looking decision making.
- Provide clear, accessible insights to a broad range of stakeholders, connecting market movements to portfolio performance and supporting a shared understanding of risks and opportunities.
You have:
- Strong quantitative or analytical background (e.g. mathematics, engineering, economics or similar).
- Experience working with data and analytical tools (e.g. Python, SQL).
- Understanding of commodity or financial markets.
- Familiarity with analytical techniques such as scenario analysis and statistical modelling.
- Experience across energy markets with a strong understanding of market risk principles and exposure to trading environments, derivatives, or asset-backed portfolios (Desirable).
