Role
SSEN is looking for a skilled Project Manager to join our team in supporting the Distribution ED2 price control period. In this role, you will help deliver projects that enable the transition to Net Zero by overseeing the upgrade and replacement of our electricity network infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring that all projects are executed safely, on time, and within budget — while aligning with the changing needs and expectations of our customers.
You will:
- Manage a range of projects in accordance with our investment management process, managing their risks and issues.
- Be responsible for all aspects of the project including safety, quality, cost and programme.
- Ensure project documentation and contracts along with supporting information are compliant, maintained and complete through each phase of the project life cycle in line with SSEN processes.
- Provide support to both our design and investment partners through excellent stakeholder engagement to ensure the projects proceed safely, efficiently and to plan.
- Be part of a project management team working closely with design engineers, field staff, contractors, customers and key stakeholders, and be adept at communication with a range of stakeholders, from internal customers to external connection customers to Local Authorities.
You have:
- Previous experience of managing construction projects involving substation works up to 132kV (must include 33kV).
- An Engineering qualification (HNC or above) is preferred and a recognised qualification in construction safety and project management would be advantageous.
- Experience in contract management and ideally have experience of NEC3 construction contracts.
- Experience in Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015 and understand the duties of Client, Principal Designer and Principal Contractor.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are vital and you will need to be comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.
- Good problem-solving skills and can thrive under pressure.
This role involves travel across various locations to support business needs. To enable you to fulfil these responsibilities, as a role requirement, the company will provide access to a vehicle for work‑related travel. The requirement will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and if the company car policy criteria are met, there will be an opportunity to join the company car scheme. Provision of a company car or cash allowance does not form part of the contractual terms and conditions of employment for this role. A valid driving licence is essential.
