The role

Are you passionate about using data and insight to help shape a more sustainable energy future? As a Planning Analyst within SSE Energy Markets, you'll play an important role in helping us understand, value and optimise our diverse energy portfolio. Working across electricity, gas and environmental markets, you'll use data-driven insights to support forecasting, valuation, risk management and commercial decision-making.

This is a highly collaborative role where you'll work closely with colleagues across the business, combining analytical thinking with commercial awareness to help maximise value from generation assets, customer demand portfolios, flexible gas storage and emerging low-carbon technologies. You'll be encouraged to bring fresh perspectives, build meaningful relationships and contribute to an environment where safety, continuous learning and teamwork are central to our success.

You will

  • Collaborate with colleagues across SSE to ensure trading and portfolio positions are accurately maintained, supporting the safe and effective management of our portfolio from long-term hedging through to day-ahead operations.
  • Translate data into meaningful insights, helping stakeholders make informed decisions that support commercial performance and portfolio optimisation.
  • Develop and enhance forecasting and valuation models, providing greater understanding of future asset performance and market opportunities.
  • Support forecasting, budgeting and planning activities, bringing clarity to complex market dynamics and helping shape business decisions.
  • Build trusted relationships across the business, communicating analysis in an engaging and accessible way while contributing to a culture of safety, collaboration and continuous improvement.

You have

  • A degree in a STEM, Economics or Finance-related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience within energy markets or another commercially focused analytical environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, alongside a natural curiosity for understanding data and uncovering meaningful insights.
  • The ability to interpret, model and communicate complex information clearly, adapting your style to suit different audiences and stakeholders.
  • Experience using Power BI, Python, Databricks or other advanced analytical and data management technologies.
