The role
Our SSEN Distribution Operations teams play a vital role in keeping the lights on. We are the first responders on the network, ensuring reliability and quick action when issues arise. When a fault is identified, we take responsibility for responding promptly and deploying skilled teams to restore service as quickly as possible. Mobile Generation provides essential backup power to keep customers connected during planned maintenance or unexpected outages.
You will:
- Collaborate within a small team to support planned maintenance and respond to emergency faults on the electricity network.
- Deliver LV and HV generators to restore power as needed and manage their day-to-day servicing and upkeep.
- Maintain generator availability across all regions to ensure rapid deployment when required.
- Service the mobile generation fleet, including planned, preventative and reactive maintenance, repairing or replacing defective equipment, general upkeep of plant, adequate reporting of fleet conditions and status.
- Support out of hours' availability, including participation in a standby rota.
You have:
- Completed a time-served apprenticeship in vehicle, plant, HGV, or mobile generator fitting.
- A full UK driving licence is essential, as the role involves travel across the SEPD licence area. Company transport will be provided.
- Strong diagnostic skills for identifying mechanical and electrical faults.
- The capability to carry out timely and safe repairs both on-site and in the workshop.
- Experience of load testing.
- Willingness to work away from home for short periods as required.
