Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations Reading, Cardiff, London, Glasgow or Perth.

Salary: £42,600 - £64,000 + performance‑related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Overview: As an Engineer within the ICP business, you will support the development and delivery of electrical distribution network designs across new‑build and existing infrastructure projects. You will assist in the production, coordination and technical delivery of LV, HV and EHV (including 132kv) electrical network designs in compliance with relevant legislation, NERS requirements, ENA G81 standards, DNO/IDNO specifications and SSE engineering governance requirements. You will work closely with internal engineering teams, delivery teams, clients, DNOs, IDNOs and external design partners to support the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of projects from early‑stage feasibility through to construction and final network adoption. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop technical capability within the growing Energy Customer Solutions and ICP market while contributing to innovative engineering solutions supporting the UK’s transition to net zero.

You will:

  • Support the development of LV, HV and EHV (including 132kV) electrical distribution network designs for contestable infrastructure projects.
  • Assist in producing conceptual, outline and detailed electrical designs in line with NERS, ENA G81, BS standards and DNO/IDNO requirements.
  • Support feasibility studies, route assessments and equipment selection activities.
  • Assist with technical assessments including load flow, fault level, voltage drop and protection coordination studies.
  • Support the integration of earthing, protection, metering and SCADA requirements where applicable.
  • Ensure designs are developed in accordance with CDM, SHE requirements and industry legislation.

You have:

  • Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
  • Working towards professional registration such as IEng or CEng is desirable.
  • Experience or understanding of electrical distribution network design across LV and HV systems.
  • Awareness of NERS, ENA G81, DNO/IDNO standards, CDM 2015 Regulations and UK engineering legislation.
  • Understanding of electrical network design principles including protection, earthing and cable systems.
  • Experience using engineering software and AutoCAD packages is desirable.
