The role At SSEN Transmission, we're at the forefront of the UK's journey to net-zero, supporting the development and delivery of major, large-scale terrestrial transmission infrastructure. As a Consents and Environment Manager within our Construction (Delivery) team, you will work on iconic national infrastructure projects, directly facilitating Scotland's ambitions to meet Net Zero through the transmission of renewable energy. You'll support projects as they move into construction, ensuring conditions are discharged on time and that environmental and consent obligations are clearly embedded in delivery. Working closely alongside contractors and stakeholders, you'll provide practical advice and oversight that helps keep projects on track while maintaining high environmental standards.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an award-winning team, renowned for its sector-leading planning and sustainability initiatives, gaining valuable experience, support, and guidance. With a high level of autonomy in your projects, you'll be encouraged to introduce new ideas that enhance the consenting and project delivery approach, and those contributions will be rewarded with excellent long‑term career opportunities.

You will:

  • Support projects preparing for construction by coordinating the timely discharge of planning conditions and consent requirements.
  • Ensure environmental and consenting specifications are clear, robust, and fully embedded within delivery contracts.
  • Provide advice to project teams and contractors on environmental compliance, including micro‑siting within agreed limits and securing consent modifications where required.
  • Develop and manage monitoring approaches to ensure proportionate and effective environmental oversight during construction.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including statutory bodies, consultees, and government departments.

You have:

  • Strong knowledge of the Scottish planning process, consenting regimes, and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), with experience in the Scottish rural environment.
  • Proven project management skills in overseeing consenting and environmental compliance for major projects, including project delivery, external consultant management, cost management, project risk, quality assurance, and programme management.
  • A degree in Environmental disciplines, ideally with a postgraduate qualification, and experience in a relevant industry (e.g., infrastructure, environmental planning, statutory bodies, or consultancy).
  • Membership with a relevant professional body is an advantage.
  • Experience with infrastructure construction processes, including ground investigation, earthworks, drainage, and access works.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, embracing challenges and opportunities within a changing environment.
