Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations: London, Perth, or Glasgow.

Salary: £59,800 - £89,800 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: 12 month FTC | Full Time | Flexible First options available.

The role: SSE's Development Directorate is seeking a Commercial Development Manager to join the Commercial Development team to provide commercial expertise and facilitate the delivery of flexible efficient assets whilst seeking new low carbon opportunities through emerging technologies. Reporting to the Head of Commercial Development, you will be responsible for developing commercial strategies and frameworks and implementing and driving our commercial and contracting strategy that are consistent with SSE's strategy and strategic aim of driving growth.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work within a dynamic environment and deliver value to live and new opportunities with a breadth of complexities, such as Carbon Capture and Storage and power for Data Centres, opening up potential future opportunities for growth.

You will:

  • Be responsible for the development of commercial frameworks for new opportunities, including data centres, and link commercial structures with the needs of the business and the risks associated with nascent projects.
  • Lead the drafting and reviewing of commercial agreements to capture commercial drivers and work with Procurement, Finance and Legal teams to ensure robust representation of the commercial position and being the interface to joint venture partners or other external entities.
  • Support the development of commercial strategies for new projects and identify where commercial value can be captured for SSE and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
  • Work with the Heads of three functional areas to support the origination and commercial and economic review of a wide selection of projects.
  • Build and maintain productive and enduring relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including JV partners and communities, to support the development of projects that you are responsible for.

You have:

  • Exceptional commercial ability and aptitude for identifying commercial opportunities and risks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, creative in delivering results, finding ways around obstacles and identifying new opportunities.
  • Ability to write and structure effective papers and presentations to communicate strategic proposals, business plans, budget papers and commercial opportunities.
  • A collaborative working style with demonstrable ability to deliver results as part of a team, capable of regularly re-prioritising work by remaining organised and resilient in a fast-moving delivery environment.
  • A minimum of degree level education in business, maths, engineering, or equivalent previous experience in a commercial role.
