Base Location: Reading, Havant, Glasgow and Perth

Salary: £58,100 – £87,100 and a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The Regulation Manager will lead on regulatory engagement across the Distribution technology function, focusing primarily on the strategy, security and availability of regulated systems in critical national infrastructure. The role holder will understand Distribution and Group regulatory positions and ensure alignment and integration of activities to enable effective and efficient delivery across the function.

The Distribution Management System (DMS) applications and the remaining Operational Technology estate has extensive cyber resilience plans and operates in a 24/7/365 support environment with protection and control systems, distributed network automation and multi-vendor telecommunications solutions. In this role,you’ll provide regulatory advice and analysis, and develop the regulatory strategy, in specific areas of the business. Specifically,you’ll be responsible for the following:

You Will

  • Regulatory Strategy Development : Support the business in shaping and delivering strategies for current and future price control periods to achieve strong customer and business outcomes.
  • Performance Monitoring & Value Optimisation : Oversee delivery against ED2 commitments, track spend vs. allowances, and collaborate with teams to maximise value from regulatory settlements.
  • Policy Development & Advocacy : Lead policy analysis and development, form SSEN’s positions on emerging issues, and represent these in formal industry and government engagements.
  • Industry & Stakeholder Representation : Act as SSEN’s technical expert in national forums, contributing to industry standards, technical programmes, and regulatory consultations.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Advisory : Ensure licence compliance through internal governance, interpret new regulations, and provide expert advice on key regulatory trends and obligations.

You Have

  • Strategic Regulatory Experience : Direct experience with price control regulation, including interpreting and drafting complex legal and regulatory documents.
  • Technical & Regulatory Expertise : Deep knowledge of electricity distribution/transmission operations, protection systems, and compliance with statutory, regulatory, and engineering standards – preferably within a technology or operational context
  • Project & Risk Management : Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects, allocate resources strategically, and manage business risks and opportunities.
  • Effective Communication & Influence : Skilled in presenting complex issues clearly to senior stakeholders and influencing without direct authority.
  • Governance & Compliance : Strong understanding of safety-critical governance, business separation, procurement rules, and developing compliant procedures and documentation.
