The Role
This role will lead on all aspects of Infrastructure within SSEN Distribution Operational Technology – from managing day to day operations across multiple Server Rooms and Substation sites, undertaking and driving Infrastructure Design & Build activities from across our change portfolio, and defining and executing SSEN Distribution’s Strategy around Infrastructure and Platforms Modernisation as we move into our next Regulatory pricing period. This role is crucial to managing the critical infrastructure that underpins SSEN Distribution’s Pathway to 2030 goals.
You Will
- Key member of the SSEN Distribution OT Leadership Team, delivering 24/7 critical infrastructure services and collaborating across Asset Management and Operations.
- Oversees day-to-day operations and change management across OT infrastructure, ensuring compliance with NIS Regulations and ITIL practices (Incident, Problem, Release, Capacity Management, etc.).
- Leads infrastructure and platform strategy and modernisation toward 2030+, including on-premise, virtualised, and cloud environments in alignment with SSE IT’s ‘North Star’ vision.
- Drives safety performance, risk management, and service continuity while supporting operational SLAs and delivering infrastructure design/build for OT change programmes.
- Manages a hybrid team and partners with GTS and other business units to align on standards, shared services, and long-term strategy.
You Have
- Strong knowledge of Operational Technology, networks, and the energy/utility sector, with an understanding of SSE’s organisation, culture, and values.
- Extensive experience in operating on-premise infrastructure and applying modern IT/OT infrastructure practices in critical environments.
- Skilled in end-to-end infrastructure delivery, including requirements, design, build, and implementation, with a proven ability to define and execute strategy.
- Familiar with AWS cloud services and migration practices, integrating cloud into OT infrastructure effectively.
- Experienced in leading small teams, managing third-party vendors, and operating within ITIL v4 or similar frameworks.
