The role
SSE Renewables Hydro operate the largest fleet of hydro-electric power assets across eight hydro schemes in Scotland. Our portfolio totals 1,459MW of installed capacity, which includes pumped storage and flexible hydro. Our assets consist of some of the most iconic power station sites constructed, which brought hydro-electric power to the Scottish Glens 80 years ago.
The multi-disciplined team based at Killin Workshop are accountable for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of our Hydro Generation Plant, and we have an opportunity for a Multi-Skilled Fitter to join the team.
Some of your main accountabilities will include;
- Carrying out electrical and mechanical maintenance, with the opportunity to support civil works within your level of competence.
- Responding quickly to equipment faults, using effective fault-finding techniques to identify and resolve issues.
- Supporting day-to-day repairs and rectification activities, alongside a range of assigned project work.
- Completing routine inspections and checks to help maintain high standards of equipment and fixed-plant performance.
- Identifying and report operational defects, and complete risk assessments together with environmental and safety inspections.
- Undertaking the required training to safely operate and isolate fixed generation plant when required.
- Supporting flood control activities, with comprehensive training provided.
To be successful in this role, we would love you to have;
- Experience in a multi-skilled craftsperson or similar role, with practical knowledge of electrical and mechanical generation equipment.
- An NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds qualification or equivalent recognised craft apprenticeship certification.
- Good IT skills, with the ability to become proficient in our maintenance scheduling, reporting and wider company software; full training will be provided.
- A flexible approach to working, including the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and, when required, outside normal working hours.
Due to the nature of this role, you should reside, or be prepared to relocate, within 40 miles of Killin Workshop, Killin, Perthshire and hold a Full UK Driver License.
