The role involves working with policy and regulation teams across SSE to coordinate the development of SSE’s positioning and input into the policy development process. You will actively engage with external stakeholders to understand their views and shape the views of the wider stakeholder community on key priority areas. The role will primarily focus on UK policy but will also contribute to the team’s work on Irish and EU policy developments.
You will:
- Gather and analyse up‑to‑date information on political, governmental and key influencer activities to provide policy advice and strategic support to SSE’s businesses.
- Represent SSE externally and build and manage relationships with key policy influencers to support policy development.
- Help coordinate SSE’s policy development and ensure engagement plans are in place for each issue, including cross‑team and department collaboration where required.
- Keep knowledge of business priorities, energy markets, and regulatory and policy landscape current and relevant.
You have:
- Extensive experience within the energy sector, government, or UK policy environments, alongside a strong understanding of energy markets, industry developments, and the UK policy landscape.
- A proactive and collaborative self‑starter with a genuine interest in the energy sector.
- Excellent communication skills, translating complex information into accessible messages for senior leaders and wider audiences.
- Articulate relationship builder, working across teams and networks to share insight and support collective goals.
- A thoughtful and analytical approach, able to explore challenges from different perspectives.
- Degree qualified, ideally with postgraduate study in a relevant discipline such as Energy Policy, Environmental Policy, Politics or Law.
- Experience of working with data, with the ability to interpret and apply numerical and technical information.
