The role SSE is seeking to appoint a Group Director of Enterprise Platforms, Infrastructure & Operations to be accountable for the strategy, designing, delivering and operating the digital foundations that enable the safe, resilient and effective operation of the SSE Group, today and through a period of significant transformation and growth.
Reporting directly to the Group CIO, the Group Director of Enterprise Platforms, Infrastructure & Operations acts as a trusted partner not just to the Group CIO but to the Executive team and Business Units, balancing operational excellence with transformation, and ensuring the Group’s foundational platforms are reliable, future ready and proportionate to the safety, regulatory and resilience expectations of the energy sector.
You will:
- Own and steward the Group’s enterprise compute, cloud and connectivity platforms for IT and hosts specific OT platforms — spanning public cloud (Azure and AWS), on premise data centres, enterprise networks and identity — alongside end user services and productivity platforms, including devices, Office 365 and Copilot.
- Lead and have global oversight and accountability for enterprise digital operations, ensuring reliable, secure and cost‑effective IT services through mature service management, SIAM and operational governance.
- Lead the modernisation and simplification of the Group’s digital foundations, including cloud and compute environments, data centres, networking, identity and end user services.
- Drive a cloud first, engineering led approach, embedding infrastructure as code, security as code and automated compliance to improve speed, reliability and repeatability.
- Set and uphold enterprise standards for availability, resilience, crisis response and business continuity, proportionate to the Group’s role as a critical electricity and renewable power provider.
- Own the commercial strategy for enterprise platforms and digital operations, including budget management, cost optimisation and long‑term investment planning.
- Be the executive sponsor and owner of critical enterprise partner relationships.
You have:
- Enterprise scale leadership experience, deep technical credibility and a strong execution mindset, with the ability to balance operational excellence with transformation and innovation.
- Proven experience as a senior technology leader operating at Group or enterprise level, with accountability for platforms, infrastructure and digital operations across complex organisations.
- Extensive experience across public cloud platforms (Azure and AWS), enterprise compute, data centres, networks, identity and end user services.
- Demonstrated ability to translate business and digital strategy into platform strategy, enabling faster delivery while maintaining resilience, security and regulatory compliance.
- A credible executive level leader, able to build trust and influence with Boards, Executives, regulators and senior stakeholders with strong commercial insight, including ownership of material technology budgets, investment trade‑offs and long‑term cost to serve optimisation.
