Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office - Inverness, Perth, Aberdeen, Glasgow.
Salary: £51,600 - £77,400 + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role: SSEN Transmission Onshore AC are currently recruiting for a Lead Project Engineer to support our growing portfolio of projects throughout the delivery of high profile, high value and technically complex projects on the Electricity Transmission network in Scotland. The role is responsible for taking projects from initial development and design, through to delivery, commissioning and hand over to operations.
You will:
- Lead and support project teams in the development and delivery of projects across transmission providing leadership, co-ordination, and ownership of interfaces between multiple technical disciplines where required.
- Work closely with our engineers and managers to help ensure that engineering design risks are identified and mitigated to ensure appropriate measures are put in place for the pre-construction phase.
- Implement and comply with CDM procedures and practices, and all other regulatory requirements associated with the nature of substation and electrical system design.
- Prepare and co-ordinate design assurance reviews and the delivery of key project Gate documentation as per Large Capital Projects Governance.
- Mentor and support the development of less experienced engineers, helping to build capability within the team, while working collaboratively with consultants and contractors to enable effective decision-making.
You have:
- Experience of project development and delivery, within Transmission or a similar industry, through the optioneering and initial design phases, with an ability to develop the optimum project solution, deliver to timescales and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and support informed decision-making. You build positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Demonstrable experience of mentoring and coaching others to enable growth within an engineering team.
- An excellent technical understanding of relevant legislation and the implications for both Assets and Projects, including CDM & ESQCR.
- Degree qualified in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil or a related engineering discipline; Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is desirable.
- The role requires a full current driving licence due to the requirement to travel to and be on site.
