The role: This is a fantastic opportunity to join SSE’s in‑house legal team as a Property Solicitor, where you’ll play a meaningful role in enabling the safe and responsible delivery of our energy infrastructure. Working across a diverse portfolio of onshore and offshore projects, you’ll provide trusted, thoughtful legal guidance on property matters, supporting colleagues and stakeholders with care, clarity and integrity.
You will:
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of property acquisition and land use agreements, including leases, purchases, sales, options, servitudes and wayleaves, supporting the successful delivery of onshore and offshore projects.
- Provide practical and commercially focused legal advice to stakeholders on a wide range of property matters, including the interpretation of legal agreements, landlord and tenant matters, and boundary disputes.
- Build and manage positive relationships with external legal counsel, ensuring high‑quality support, effective collaboration and value for the business.
- Advise on and support a variety of legal queries and agreements, including commercial agreements, non‑disclosure agreements and co‑operation agreements.
- Provide support to the wider SSE Legal Team as required, sharing knowledge and contributing to a collaborative, safety‑led and values‑driven culture.
You have:
- Qualification as a solicitor in Scotland with around 2–5 years’ PQE, although applications from candidates with more or less experience are welcome. Senior paralegals with directly relevant experience may also be considered.
- Broad experience of property matters, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating property agreements, together with title investigation, due diligence and registration experience.
- An additional qualification in England & Wales would be advantageous, and experience of planning law would be beneficial, although neither is essential.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, supporting both legal colleagues and stakeholders across the wider business.
- Strong communication, organisational and commercial awareness skills, alongside an interest in the energy sector and a commitment to working in a safety‑led and values‑driven environment.
