About the Role
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Solicitor to join our Construction and Commercial Legal Team in SSEN Transmission. Reporting to a Legal Manager, you will form part of our team of solicitors working on construction, engineering and commercial contracts. In this role there is scope to work across a number of SSEN Transmission's projects. SSEN Transmission’s projects play a critical role in enabling the transition to a low‑carbon economy by establishing the necessary transmission infrastructure to transport renewable energy from the north of Scotland to demand centres across the country.
You Will
- Work closely with legal colleagues, internal specialist corporate functions and business representatives to achieve their goals and objectives by providing high quality, pragmatic legal support and advice in relation to a variety of commercial and construction matters for both existing operational assets and new projects for the business.
- Build and maintain good relationships with clients in the business, colleagues across the Legal team and other internal specialist corporate functions.
- Gain a clear understanding of our strategic priorities as a business and assist in ensuring that we deliver on our core purpose, to power communities to thrive today and create a net zero tomorrow.
- Undertake work in‑house and, where necessary, engage external lawyers from our panel firms.
You Have Skills and Experience
- Qualification as a solicitor in Scotland and/or England and Wales with a minimum of 5 years PQE, with knowledge of the legal and commercial issues that are pertinent to the construction or utilities sector.
- Broad experience of commercial and construction matters (preferably in the utilities and/or energy sector) including drafting and negotiating engineering and construction contracts and associated commercial agreements.
- Comfortable working independently and within project teams and leading matters of high value and high risk.
- A proactive and pragmatic approach to giving legal advice and support in a clear and concise manner and within timescales.
- Demonstrates authority, credibility and maturity in their approach to their work.
- A high degree of confidence in your approach to work, legal skills and knowledge with a demonstrable resilient attitude to challenging situations.
- Comfortable in taking the lead in challenging situations and effectively resolving conflict.
