Base Location:For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office – Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness.

Salary:£51,600 - £77,400 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

As part of SSEN Transmission’s 'Pathway to 2030' programme and wider Net Zero journey, we are seeking an Overhead Line Project Engineer to support the development and delivery of major transmission infrastructure projects.

Based within the Project Engineering team, you will provide technical leadership and engineering support across the project lifecycle, with a primary focus on 132kV, 275kV and 400kV AC overhead line systems. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, contractors and stakeholders to help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with engineering, quality and regulatory requirements.

We welcome applications from experienced candidates with overhead line engineering skills gained within client, contractor or consultancy environments, ideally within the electricity transmission sector.

You will

  • - Provide overhead line engineering support for major 400kV, 275kV and 132kV projects across the full project life cycle, working as part of a multidiscipline project engineering team.
  • - Take on a Lead Project Engineering role on some Projects, leading on engineering governance, co-ordination of all Engineering Disciplines and support/assist others in the project team around managing engineering risks and utilising opportunities for the project to excel.
  • - Act as the point of contact for overhead line engineering and represent engineering at key strategic, commercial, programme and site project meetings.
  • - Promote and manage safety within the assigned projects through the implementation of CDM procedures and practices, ensuring the project engineering is compliant with company, HSE and industry regulations.
  • - Work closely with Engineering Managers and Project Managers to ensure that Engineering and Quality risks are identified and mitigated.

You have

  • - Strong technical skills in overhead line development, design, and specification.
  • - Familiarity with overhead line design software (e.g. PLS-CADD) is advantageous but not essential.
  • - A technical degree or HND, with relevant experience in the field.
  • - A proactive, problem-solving mindset with the ability to explore design options and apply evidence-based decision-making.
  • - Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and deliver information effectively across all levels.
