Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office - Inverness, Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen.
Salary: £35,200 - £50,000 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role: SSEN Transmission have an exciting opportunity for an HV Primary Plant Assistant Engineer to join our multi-disciplined Project Engineering team to help develop and deliver innovative solutions to high voltage electrical substation projects, helping to unlock the renewable generation potential in the North of Scotland and contributing towards the UK's Net-Zero targets.
You will:
- Assist HV Primary Plant Project Engineers, Senior HV Primary Plant Project Engineers, and Engineering Managers at any stage of the project development and delivery.
- Take responsibility for assigned tasks and projects, delivering them professionally and within deadlines.
- Proactively pursue training to build interpersonal and technical skills needed for a Primary Project Engineer role.
- Engage with colleagues and stakeholders, representing yourself and SSEN Transmission professionally and upholding SSE's values.
- Be willing and able to travel and work away from home across the UK and elsewhere, adapting to project needs.
- Implement safety by design principles to ensure that engineering and safety risks are adequately controlled.
You have:
- A degree (BEng) or higher national diploma (HND) in electrical engineering, or progressing towards these qualifications, with some relevant work experience or placement preferred.
- Good communication, time-management, and organisational skills, with willingness to learn and develop further.
- A positive and proactive attitude towards supporting project delivery, with guidance, ensuring tasks are completed on time and to the required standard.
- Willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to the engineering team’s success.
- Enthusiasm to develop communication skills and a diligent approach to work, with the ability to prioritise tasks under supervision in a dynamic environment.
- Basic problem-solving skills and the confidence to seek support when identifying and escalating critical issues to senior project team members.
