Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations - Reading, Cardiff, London, Glasgow or Perth.

The role is accountable for the engineering and design of ICP electrical networks. Ensuring the management of resources is effectively deployed with the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience; Design risk is managed through robust design principles and hazard identification, including management and oversight of NERS design processes. Provide design assurance, guiding projects through Enterprise Governance, and having the appropriate level of competence to review and approve designs through the development lifecycle.
A key requirement of the role is providing robust and comprehensive support to tendering activity in order to secure the ICP pipeline. The engineering manager is required to coordinate resource and expertise in supporting technical bid submissions, and techno-economic reviews of contractor proposals.
As part of the management team for Engineering in Customer Asset Portfolio and reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, the ICP Engineering Manager will ultimately support the successful growth of the ICP business.
You will hold the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience to act as a delegated design authority for projects, ensuring that the basis of design, specification and scope is developed in an appropriate manner in line with the expectations of clients and internal governance; outlining and being accountable for appropriate design reviews and approvals in line with NERS.
Inclusively manage a diverse engineering and design team ensuring that good engineering principles, process and procedures are developed and managed within the team. Have a good understanding of project programmes and attentiveness in managing key risks on projects through your direct reports. Accountable for setting and/or approving project design development budgets and ensuring they are managed throughout the project lifecycle. Build relationships with key senior stakeholders and confidently report on projects with effective communication.
Hold the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to identify hazards and work methodically to mitigate risk through design, continually monitoring and reducing risk throughout the project development. Ensuring that training and development is identified and to develop the whole team's understanding and skills in safety through design, embedding a positive HSQE culture across the team.
Ensure appropriate resources are secured for projects either internally or externally through our design framework and delivery contractors. Monitor and manage resourcing across projects continually, making changes where needed in a proactive manner.
Responsible for engineering standards and quality of designs, ensuring that industry standards, internal standards and any regulatory standards are interpreted correctly and reflected with compliant design outputs.
Create an inclusive and psychologically safe environment for your team to develop as engineering professionals, monitoring performance and stretching individuals appropriately through personal development plans and objective setting cycles providing the relevant mentoring and training.
You have extensive experience in power distribution and electrical infrastructure at HV and EHV in the UK, particularly regulated and licensed networks including NERS processes and ideally in an ICP environment. Experience in working with regulated transmission and distribution operators for large connections. Significant experience in the management of engineering projects, developing and delivering designs for major electrical infrastructure projects. Chartered Engineer or Incorporated status (or can demonstrate working towards professional registration). Can demonstrate strong technical skills and have a detailed understanding of technical/commercial interactions. Can demonstrate experience in identifying, procuring and managing specific engineering disciplines required for multi-disciplinary projects. Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels. The ability to work well in a team and demonstrate inclusive behaviours to build a proud and diverse team.
