SSE Thermal are looking to recruit a Gas Storage Process Safety Engineer based at our sites in Hornsea and Aldbrough. In this role you’ll provide process safety expertise to the Gas Storage business to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, standards and support continuous improvement in SHE performance, whilst also contributing to NetZero by working on hydrogen storage projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing process safety expertise and support to site operations and capital projects.
  • Ensuring process safety legislative, SSE requirements are met and providing effective communication of process safety issues and requirements.
  • Making sure that process safety risks are identified, understood and managed through systems, procedures and training to deliver industry-leading process safety performance.
  • Maintaining specific process safety-related risk control systems, including those for Well Integrity and Hazardous Area Classification.
  • Leading process safety improvements.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Experience of Process Safety risk assessment techniques – HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA and of Process Safety Performance Indicators and their use in improving SHE performance.
  • A degree in Chemical/Process/Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry and have or be willing to work towards chartered status.
  • Detailed knowledge of process safety concepts and principles and relevant process safety standards / codes / guidance and sources of this information.
  • The ability to understand and interpret regulations, standards and systems, and communicate their requirements to others.
