The role involves:
- Sitting in the Group Policy and Public Affairs team within the Group Corporate Affairs function.
- Coordinating the development of SSE’s positioning and input into the policy development process.
- Actively engaging with external stakeholders to understand their views and shape the views of the wider stakeholder community on key priority areas.
- Focusing primarily on UK policy while also contributing to Irish and EU policy developments.
- Working across SSE’s market facing businesses, focusing on one or two Business Units to develop constructive working relationships internally.
- Gathering and analysing up‑to‑date information on political, governmental and key influencer activities to provide policy advice and strategic support to SSE’s businesses.
- Representing SSE externally and building and managing relationships with key policy influencers to support policy development.
- Coordinating SSE’s policy development and ensuring engagement plans are in place for each issue.
- Keeping knowledge of business priorities, energy markets, and regulatory and policy landscape current and relevant.
You have:
- Extensive experience within the energy sector, government, or UK policy environments.
- A strong understanding of energy markets, industry developments, and the UK policy landscape.
- Comfort navigating policy processes and contributing to shaping outcomes.
- A proactive and collaborative self‑starter with a genuine interest in the energy sector.
- Excellent communication skills, translating complex information into accessible messages.
- Articulate relationship-building skills, working across teams and networks.
- A thoughtful and analytical approach to exploring challenges and developing solutions.
- A degree, ideally with postgraduate study in a relevant discipline such as Energy Policy, Environmental Policy, Politics or Law.
- Experience of working with data, interpreting and applying numerical and technical information.
