Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations – Perth or Glasgow. Hybrid working with a 50% split between home and office is available for this role to support your work/life balance.
Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + performance bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role
SSEN Transmission is growing rapidly, and we’re looking for a System Planning and Investment Engineer to help shape the future of the electricity transmission system in the North of Scotland. In this role, you’ll work on integrating low-carbon generation, flexible demand, and emerging technologies into the transmission system—an exciting opportunity to advance your career in power system analysis and strategic energy planning.
You will:
- Undertake power system analysis including technical assessments of generator and demand customer connection applications.
- Prepare technical reports, providing input into commercial reports, business cases and investment need cases.
- Assess the capability and technical compliance of the transmission network against a range of energy futures and viable operating conditions.
- Support the development and detailed design of projects through the justification of investment cases and undertaking system studies to underpin these.
You have:
- Experience in power system analysis, design, and planning—ideally within electricity transmission—and familiarity with tools such as PSSE, PowerFactory, or similar.
- A solid understanding of electrical theory, the structure of the electricity industry, and UK energy policy.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, structured technical reports and provide concise insights for senior stakeholders.
- A passion for contributing to the energy transition, with a desire to influence industry frameworks and support the development of a net zero-ready network.
- A qualification in Engineering, Physics, or another STEM discipline, along with an interest or experience in Python scripting for power system applications.
