Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations: Glasgow or Perth.

Salary: £61,620 - £75,592 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role:

  • As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you'll join a team of developers working in Agile practices to modernise SSE Energy Markets IT practices.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of our EM IT estate in both cloud and traditional on-prem deployments; focusing on application packaging, code deployment, automation, infrastructure as code, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Your expertise in cloud services (Azure), security, and automation will be instrumental in driving forward the digital transformation initiatives.
  • You will design and deliver scalable cloud solutions, including infrastructure as code (Terraform), application packaging and deployment, integrations, and App Services-ensuring cost efficiency and adherence to best practices.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions, collaborating closely with development teams to streamline release management and accelerate delivery.
  • Implement robust monitoring and alerting frameworks with tools such as Splunk, Azure Monitor, and ServiceNow integration, proactively identifying issues and supporting incident management.
  • Drive automation, security, and compliance, optimising infrastructure, reducing manual tasks, maintaining documentation, supporting ITIL processes, and participating in on-call rotations for critical system support.

You have:

  • Extensive experience in cloud infrastructure and DevOps, with deep expertise in Terraform for infrastructure as code and strong proficiency in Azure resource management, including networking, storage, databases, and compute services.
  • Advanced CI/CD knowledge, with hands-on experience using tools like Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions, and a solid grasp of release management, Agile delivery, and automation best practices.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as PowerShell, Bash, Golang, Groovy, Python or C#/.NET, with a keen focus on implementing secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
  • Technically curious and proactive, with a passion for continuous learning and improvement, and a strong understanding of Azure monitoring, alerting, and security frameworks.
