The role

SSE Thermal is looking for a Joint Venture Manager to manage a portfolio of partnerships that support the UK’s energy transition. Acting as SSE’s day-to-day shareholder representative, you’ll help shape commercial, strategic and investment decisions while balancing governance requirements and competing priorities.

You’ll work with senior stakeholders, project teams and joint venture partners to support effective governance, decision-making and value creation, gaining exposure across the full partnership lifecycle from set-up to long-term portfolio management.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop a strong track record in commercial asset management, M&A implementation, and investment management while supporting some of the UK’s most significant low-carbon energy projects.

Some of your other main accountabilities will include

  • Monitoring joint venture performance, commercial arrangements and strategic priorities, identifying opportunities, risks and actions to maximise value across SSE’s portfolio.
  • Preparing investment recommendations, business cases and executive papers, assessing proposals, budgets and plans while challenging assumptions and supporting internal governance and assurance processes.
  • Supporting acquisitions, disposals, partnerships and joint venture formations, helping plan implementation and establish effective governance, processes and operating arrangements for long-term ownership.
  • Building strong relationships with joint venture partners and senior stakeholders, acting as a key contact across teams and functions to influence successful commercial and strategic outcomes.

To be successful in this role, we would love you to have

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree qualification or higher in finance, economics, engineering, law, business or a related discipline.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to identify value, risk and opportunity, navigate complexity and provide clear recommendations for senior decision makers.
  • Experience assessing investment opportunities, business plans, budgets and commercial outcomes, using financial evaluation techniques to challenge assumptions and support capital allocation decisions.
  • The ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through governance and decision-making processes, produce high-quality papers and presentations, and manage multiple priorities across projects and partnerships.
  • Experience applying commercial agreements and governance frameworks within complex partnerships or major infrastructure projects, ideally with an understanding of power markets and the UK’s low-carbon energy transition.
