Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations - Caithness, Western Isles, Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow or Perth.
Salary: Up to £65,000 + car/cash allowance + annual bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role: As part of SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme of works and beyond, we are looking for a Civil Project Engineer to join the HVDC team to help drive forward our projects and who can bring big ideas, new skills and innovative thinking to help us grow our teams to successfully deliver a network for Net Zero. Many of our projects are in the Highlands, Western Isles and Aberdeenshire, so a willingness to travel to that area or locally based engineers are desirable.
You will:
- Be responsible for Civil Engineering design and delivery on assigned projects of typical capital value £200M - £2B.
- Provide technical input for your specialist discipline as well as interfacing with other technical and project functions to ensure a co-ordinated approach to project delivery and identification and resolution of key risks.
- Promote and manage safety within assigned projects through the implementation of CDM procedures and safety in design as part of your role as Civil Project Engineer. Fulfilling the role of Designer or Principal Designer under CDM.
- Take responsibility for defining scope of civil engineering design and validation and verification of civil engineering designs. Providing ongoing civil engineering support during delivery stages of assigned projects including dealing with RFIs, TQs and PMIs.
- Collaborate with Contractors, Consultants and multi-disciplinary teams to coordinate and develop robust preliminary, outline, detailed and construction level design information with delivery partners.
- Provide site support as required during the construction phase including site supervision, resolution of design/construction issues and identification of non-conformances/quality issues and close out of issues.
You have:
- A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (preferably CEng or working towards this).
- Demonstrable experience of using digital platforms (Infraworks, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks etc.) to facilitate engineering design development and ensure design coordination with other disciplines.
- Good technical knowledge of industry standards, design codes, technical specifications, and how to determine applicability of relevant standards.
- An understanding of CDM Regulations and be proactive in the resolution of issues which affect the constructability of works on site.
- An ability to communicate complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner to facilitate decision making by senior management.
- An appreciation for working in multi-discipline project teams and enthusiasm to learn about other disciplines and their role in project development and delivery.
- A desire to be involved in both the project development and project delivery aspects of large capital projects with opportunities to be involved in projects from concept to completion.
