The role

SSE Renewables are currently seeking to recruit an Environmental Advisor to support the Onshore Wind, Solar and Battery Asset Management Team. As the Environmental Advisor, you will provide expert support to the operational wind farm and BESS Assets located across GB South, ensuring the delivery of environmental compliance and wider sustainability strategy deliverables.

You will work closely with the Onshore Wind, Solar and Battery Asset Management site teams, Sustainability Centre of Excellence and Group functions to ensure that value is established through net zero credentials, biodiversity and environmental management. You will be responsible for delivering the environmental commitments such as Biodiversity Net Gain and Habitat Management in addition to ensuring our wind farms and BESS sites are environmentally compliant. This role will be hybrid with an expectation for travel to site and office attendance. You will need a driving licence to be able to fulfil this role.

You will:

  • Maintain compliance with environmental planning consents and licences, and legal and industry obligations and standards.
  • Project manage environmental deliverables including Habitat Management Plans, Biodiversity Net Gain implementation plans and environmental monitoring regimes. This may include peatland restoration, conservation grazing and forestry management.
  • Manage contractors, including input to tender documentation and producing specifications to fulfil monitoring obligations.
  • Liaise with stakeholders including regulatory authorities, environmental agencies and internal colleagues on environmental, sustainability and nature-related activities.
  • Build partnerships with local communities and stakeholders to co-create, develop and implement sustainability initiatives aligned with our strategic goals and environmental strategies to deliver economic, environmental and social value for people and businesses, as well as support a positive reputation for SSER as a member of the community.

You have:

  • Knowledge and practical experience in a discipline such as but not limited to ecology, habitat management such as peatland restoration or forestry management, and have a broad knowledge of environmental legislation and policy.
  • Proven track record of managing environmental projects, budgets and contractors including setting contractors to work, safety standards and managing risk assessment and method statements.
  • Working knowledge of environmental auditing and inspections. Knowledge of ISO14001 would be an advantage.
  • The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, regulators, agencies, NGOs and Planning Authorities and coordinating stakeholder groups, meetings and events.
  • Ideally a Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IEMA or CIEEM, CIWEM etc) or career development pathway to enable membership.
  • Due to the nature of the role, you will need a full driving licence.
