FinOps Specialist role at SSE plc
Base Location: Reading, Havant, Glasgow and Perth
Salary: £42,600 - £64,000 + performance-related bonus and a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.
Working Pattern: Permanent Full Time
The Cloud FinOps Engineer will contribute to the optimisation of Cloud services across the SSE portfolio. The role will focus on driving commercial or architectural efficiencies, improving end to end cost management and the adoption of financial principles in system design. They will also work with business stakeholders throughout the company, including engineering and finance, to support embedding FinOps practices across SSE for efficiency and optimisation in the cloud.
Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted advisor and bridge between the cloud team and stakeholders with the ability to analyse, optimise, and implement efficiencies over different cloud services in AWS and Azure.
- Provide FinOps consultancy services to application stakeholders and lines of business such as Finance, Procurement and Project Management.
- Partner with finance to enhance forecasting, cost reporting and improve end to end transparency of Cloud costs whilst implementing and improving cost allocation models.
- Collaborate and partner with Cloud Service Providers to understand architectural best practices, new or emerging cost optimisation techniques.
- Partner with procurement to shape commercial management of the platform supported by forecasting and wider budget requirements.
Qualifications
- Understanding of Cloud services and pricing across multiple cloud hyperscalers i.e., Azure, GCP or AWS
- Understanding of automation and cloud infrastructure provisioning concepts and how they can be leveraged to support FinOps practices
- Skilled in data analysis and able to interpret data from various sources, including cloud usage logs, billing statements, and cost reports
- Strong knowledge of cloud consumption principles and Cloud services design, able to optimise designs for cost efficiency
- Experience of using and managing industry standard FinOps Tooling, for example Cloudability
