At SSE Renewables, we’re building a better world of energy by developing, constructing and operating renewable energy assets that will support the transition to net zero. Our Renewables Engineering Graduate Programme is designed for graduates who want to make an impact from day one while building a strong technical foundation in a growing, purpose‑led business. As a graduate engineer, you’ll be based in our technical team and work alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists across our renewables portfolio. You’ll contribute to the development, delivery and performance of major projects and existing assets, gaining broad exposure across technologies including onshore and offshore wind, hydro, solar and battery storage.

What is the Role?

Working in our technical team, you’ll develop core knowledge in your discipline while supporting some of the most significant renewable energy projects in the UK. You’ll have the opportunity to work on major projects including Dogger Bank and Berwick Bank, while also supporting our existing assets through asset management activity. Over the course of the programme, you’ll gain hands‑on experience that could include technical design support, engineering analysis, project delivery, operational performance improvement, and maintenance planning. You’ll work with multidisciplinary teams, build your professional network and develop the technical and behavioural skills needed for a long‑term engineering career at SSE Renewables.

Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting engineering and technical activities across renewable energy projects and operational assets.
  • Working with specialists in electrical, control systems, telecommunications, mechanical or civil engineering to solve real engineering challenges.
  • Contributing to the delivery of large‑scale projects including Dogger Bank and Berwick Bank.
  • Supporting asset management activity across our existing renewable generation portfolio.
  • Developing an understanding of the full project lifecycle, from development and design through to construction and operation.
  • Building the skills, experience and professional network needed to progress into a substantive engineering role.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a business with ambitious growth plans and play a part in shaping the future of renewable energy.

What you’ll get from the programme

  • Structured development and on‑the‑job learning across a range of technical activities.
  • Support from experienced engineers, managers and mentors throughout the programme.
  • The opportunity to work towards professional registration and chartership.
  • Hands‑on experience on nationally significant renewable energy projects and operational assets.

What do I need?

  • A minimum 2:2 degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • A strong interest in renewable energy and the transition to net zero.
  • A collaborative approach, curiosity and a willingness to learn.
