The role

SSE’s Business & Operational Support Team provides essential technical support to the Business Energy Department. We manage and maintain existing applications, oversee the testing and deployment of new software releases, and respond to business-driven change requests using rapid application development tools.

A key part of this role will be to help support Business Energy develop its Power BI capability and deliver professional reports to its staff and non-Business Energy stakeholders, enabling the accurate measurement of key KPIs which will help drive business decisions.

You will focus on converting existing reporting capability into meaningful and insightful Power BI reports in a user-friendly manner that provides suitable insight to performance of the business and its obligations to external customers and regulators.

The role represents a great opportunity for the right individual to help develop and shape Business Energy’s reporting capability and position the business as a leader within the energy market.

You will

  • Deliver and maintain new Power BI reports according to agreed deadlines, budget and requirements.
  • Provide technical support for a variety of applications, ranging from third-party systems to in-house developed solutions.
  • Lead the design and development of tactical solutions using Power BI, Python, SQL, MS Access, and MS Excel.
  • Communicate progress with your line manager and various stakeholders as required to ensure project expectations are met.
  • Ensure suitable documentation and data governance is adhered to.
  • Respond to high volumes of support requests, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance customer service.
  • Plan and manage tasks independently to meet deadlines.
  • Share knowledge and collaborate with team members to build a broad skill base across the department.

You have

  • Strong proficiency in Power BI, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, and SQL
  • Understanding of Python and Databricks.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
