Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations - Aberdeen, Perth or Inverness.
Salary: £35,200 - £52,800 + car/cash allowance + performance related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role:
SSEN Transmission is recruiting for an Assistant Marine Consents and Environment Manager within the Consents and Environment team. In this role, you will play a pivotal position in supporting development of some of the most significant subsea cable infrastructure projects in Europe. Working at the forefront of project development, environmental management, and consenting, you will help shape the future of the UK and Europe’s energy transmission networks, contributing to the UK’s 2030 energy goals.
You will:
- Support the consenting process for subsea cable and offshore infrastructure projects, from site selection through to approval, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Provide expert guidance on marine environmental considerations and marine habitat restoration projects, supporting SSEN Transmission’s sustainability commitments.
- Support and engage in marine operations as required, which run 24/7 year-round, through an on-call system, ensuring projects adhere to environmental and consenting conditions.
- Liaise with regulators, stakeholders, and industry bodies to ensure projects align with best practices and environmental policies.
- Conduct site visits, attend offshore operations, and travel at short notice when required to support project delivery.
You have:
- Strong understanding of marine regulatory regimes and legislation with the ability to assess the needs of projects from initial design, determine licensing needs, and support regulatory engagement.
- Good understanding of marine survey data such as bathymetry, side-scan sonar and sub-bottom profiling and how to interpret these in relation to marine habitats, protected features and impact mitigation.
- Clear and confident communication, with ability to challenge project teams when appropriate.
- Capability of working independently while ensuring consistency within a geographically dispersed team.
- Able to think critically and plan strategically, and apply your expertise to support project decision making across the teams.
- Strong written English skills, with experience drafting and reviewing reports, impact assessments, and EIA-compliant work.
- Knowledge of ISO-compliant environmental auditing is valued.
