Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office - Inverness, Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen.

Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + car /car allowance + performance‑related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: 12 months Fixed term contract | Full Time | Flexible First options available.

The role:

  • SSEN Transmission have an exciting opportunity for an HV Primary Plant Engineer to join our multi‑disciplined Project Engineering team to help develop and deliver innovative solutions to high voltage electrical substation projects, helping to unlock the renewable generation potential in the North of Scotland and contributing towards the UK's Net‑Zero targets.
  • You will create outline scope, site location plans, primary plant layout and Single Line Diagrams for new build and asset replacement type projects, operating up to 400kV.
  • Review contractor/consultants detailed designs and witnessing Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • Implement safety by design principles to ensure that engineering and safety risks are adequately controlled.
  • Support site and operational teams to ensure the quality of installations, with minimal risk to Network security.

You have:

  • A good awareness of the technical functions within Transmission, as well as an understanding of legal and regulatory obligations, project governance, and engineering processes.
  • Knowledge of key legislation affecting Transmission network management for both assets and projects, including the Construction Design and Management Regulations and the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations.
  • Confident problem‑solving skills and the confidence to ensure that critical issues are identified and addressed by project teams.
  • Enthusiasm and excellent communication skills, with a diligent approach and the ability to effectively prioritise tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • A degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical experience, and ideally Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional accreditation with a relevant institution.
