Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office - Inverness, Perth, Aberdeen, Glasgow.
Salary: £58,100 - £87,100 + car /car allowance + performance‑related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role:
- SSEN Transmission has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lead Project Engineer to join our multi‑disciplined engineering team, supporting the development and delivery of our project portfolio ranging in value from £10m to £1bn.
- You will lead and support project teams in the development and delivery of projects across transmission providing leadership, co‑ordination, and ownership of interfaces between multiple technical disciplines where required.
- Work closely with our engineers and managers to help ensure that engineering design risks are identified and mitigated to ensure appropriate measures are put in place for the pre‑construction phase.
- Implement and comply with CDM procedures and practices, and all other regulatory requirements associated with the nature of substation and electrical system design.
- Prepare and co‑ordinate design assurance reviews and the delivery of key project Gate documentation as per Large Capital Projects Governance.
- Mentor and support the development of less experienced engineers, helping to build capability within the team, while working collaboratively with consultants and contractors to enable effective decision‑making.
You have:
- Extensive experience of project development, within Transmission or a similar industry, through the optioneering and initial design phases, with an ability to develop the optimum project solution, deliver to timescales and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and support informed decision‑making.
- Ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Demonstrable experience of mentoring and coaching others to enable growth within an engineering team.
- An excellent technical understanding of relevant legislation and the implications for both Assets and Projects, including CDM & ESQCR.
- Degree qualified in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil or a related engineering discipline; Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is desirable.
The role requires a full current driving licence due to the requirement to travel to and be on site.
