Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations Perth, Glasgow or Aberdeen.

The role SSE Renewables has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering Team, supporting the delivery of some of the largest and most ambitious offshore wind projects across the UK and Europe. As a key member of the team, you’ll play a critical role in shaping and delivering major renewable generation projects across both development and construction phases.

Working at the forefront of the energy transition, you’ll be responsible for electrical engineering deliverables spanning the full project lifecycle — from early‑stage electrical system design through to offshore and onshore substations, grid connection infrastructure, power system studies and support in grid compliance process. This is an opportunity to contribute to an industry‑leading offshore wind development, Berwick Bank Wind Farm, helping drive innovation, sustainability, and technical excellence across our growing portfolio.

You’ll also champion value and innovation within the team, identifying and implementing new technologies, engineering solutions, and best practices that improve asset performance, optimise project delivery, and reduce lifecycle costs.

You will:

  • Deliver electrical engineering design activities for Berwick Bank Windfarm including developing and managing electrical contract documentation such as substation and electrical balance of plant specifications, scopes, and Works Information.
  • Prepare, review, and update technical specifications for substations and associated electrical equipment while ensuring compliance with technical, safety, and quality requirements through contractor and supplier design reviews.
  • Support successful project delivery by attending Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) for major substation components and electrical systems across complex offshore developments.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, external stakeholders, and supply chain partners to coordinate engineering activities and support project execution.
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and engineering best practice within the Electrical Engineering function.

You have:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering and Chartered Engineer status (or progress toward chartership) with a relevant professional institution, alongside strong experience in substation layout design, primary plant specifications, and testing up to 400kV.
  • Strong technical knowledge and practical experience within renewable energy generation, offshore wind, or electricity transmission infrastructure, including substations, primary plant, and protection systems.
  • A solid understanding of engineering legislation, industry standards, and engineering best practice relevant to substations and associated electrical systems.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to understand the wider project and business implications of engineering decisions within complex infrastructure developments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and external contractors, plus a full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel within Central Scotland and project locations as required.
