Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations - Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness.

Salary: £58,100 - £87,100 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available.

The role Safety is at the heart of everything we do at SSE, and in this role, you’ll play a central part in making sure everyone gets home safe, healthy and happy, every day. As Marine Safety Manager, you’ll provide visible leadership, specialist guidance and practical support to project and operational teams carrying out complex marine works across SSEN Transmission. You’ll champion high safety standards, build strong relationships and help drive improvements that make a real difference across our marine operations.

You will:

  • Provide visible marine safety leadership, promoting high standards of safety, health and wellbeing across project and delivery phases.
  • Lead and support a team of Marine Safety Advisors, ensuring proportionate, risk-based input to all marine activities.
  • Monitor and analyse safety performance, offering meaningful insight and assurance through governance and reporting forums.
  • Oversee contractor assurance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Plan and conduct safety visits, audits and assurance activities across vessels, ports, offshore worksites and HDD operations.
  • Strengthen marine risk management by helping teams identify hazards, demonstrate ALARP and establish effective controls for key risks (e.g. SIMOPS, lifting, crew transfers, weather, emergency response).

You have:

  • Substantial experience managing safety, health and environment in marine settings, including vessel-based operations and marine construction or installation.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Health and Safety Management, such as a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, and chartered IOSH status (or are working towards it).
  • Strong, practical knowledge of UK health and safety legislation across complex delivery environments, including maritime requirements and CDM 2015.
  • Experience in a technical discipline, ISO 45001 auditing and familiarity with the UK marine regulatory environment are desirable.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide clear, risk-based advice across design, delivery, contractor and vessel operator interfaces.
  • Medically fit to travel and work on vessels, at ports and quaysides, and at offshore locations as required.
  • Due to the nature of the role, travel within the UK is expected and a valid UK Driving Licence is essential.
