The role:

As the Corporate SHE Advisor, you'll play a key role in guiding and empowering colleagues and partners to make safe, informed decisions. Working closely with the Corporate SHE Manager, you'll help shape and continually improve our Group SHE Management System, offering clear information, training and insights that strengthen our safety culture.
You'll build positive relationships across teams and with external stakeholders to ensure risks are well understood and managed in areas such as the safe management of work, CDM, contractor engagement, and environmental protection. By fostering collaboration, sharing learning from incidents, and championing good practice, you'll help create an inclusive culture where people feel supported to deliver safe, reliable and sustainable outcomes. This role involves engaging with a range of internal and external partners, visiting work sites, and representing SSE at meetings and events. Through your thoughtful approach and commitment to our values, you'll help ensure our people, customers and communities stay safe and well every day.
You will:
- Trusted Safety Partner – Build supportive relationships across the business and with contractors, offering expert SHE guidance, completing assessments and audits, and contributing to a safe, people-centred project lifecycle.
- SHE Support – Provide practical SHE advice to help teams deliver safely and confidently, coordinating with Occupational Health to promote joined-up wellbeing and risk management.
- Culture Behaviours – Champion positive behaviours and consistent Safety Family practices, working with managers and partners to strengthen respectful, safety-focused ways of working and uphold high performance standards.
- External Representation – Represent SSE with professionalism in engagement with regulatory bodies and strategic partners, ensuring strong collaboration and clear communication.
- Incident Assurance Leadership – Support incident management and investigations, share learning across teams, and support audits, inspections and documentation improvements to maintain compliance, governance and continuous improvement.
You have:
- Recognised SHE Qualification in SHE Management e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate, or willingness to work towards qualification.
- Experience drafting clear, fact-based reports and supporting documentation.
- Experience of incident investigation processes preferred.
- Able to identify business opportunities within own area of expertise.
- Awareness of Health Safety legislation, in particular Construction (Design Management) Regulations.
