Base Location: Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire

Salary: £29,504 - £34,757 depending on experience + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time

The role involves maintaining and upgrading the electricity network. A Cable Jointer is at the heart of our network, helping us to power change.

Jointer Programme:

The programme lasts 18 to 24 months, starting with an initial course at our training school before moving on to hands-on experience with an experienced cable jointing team. During this time, you’ll build a portfolio of work to gain authorisations for network operations. The training combines technical, academic, and practical learning, allowing you to earn while you learn and work toward a nationally recognised qualification. By the end of the programme, you’ll have gained valuable skills, on-the-job experience, and an industry-recognised qualification, opening doors to a rewarding career in the energy sector and contributing to net zero.

The role is demanding and involves working outdoors in all weather, responding quickly to emergencies, and being available for out-of-hours duties, including storm response.

You will:

  • Complete cable preparation for cable jointing and cable termination into transformers or switchgear.
  • Work on our HV & LV Network, carrying out jointing, cabling and excavation work on a pre-planned and quick response basis.
  • Be responsible for the safety of yourself and colleagues and act as an ambassador for a strong safety culture in everything you do.
  • Respond quickly to any emergency situations that may arise.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions with a requirement to undertake out of hours standby duties and short notice attendance for storm situations.
  • Act as a strong ambassador for SSE Power Distribution, providing excellent customer service at all times.

You have:

  • A thirst for knowledge and training, and be able to pick up new skills quickly, working with others within a team to achieve common goals.
  • A strong focus on Health & Safety and will adhere to our company motto “if it’s not safe, we don’t do it.”
  • Hand skills – routinely stripping meter tails, using hand tools and fixing meters to boards.
  • The ability to use your initiative and plan to ensure that you have the proper equipment for the job available.
  • A flexible approach to work and understand the need to complete tasks effectively, to a high standard of quality whilst observing the highest levels of health and safety adherence.

Due to the nature of the role, there could be overnight stays required and it is essential that you have a full driving licence.
