The role

SSEN Transmission are currently recruiting an Assistant Engineering Manager to join our Project Engineering team and help drive forward our HVDC and HVAC cable projects. The ideal candidate brings with them multi-discipline engineering experience within the construction industry (in client, contractor or consultancy organisations). Additionally, we want them to bring new ideas and a growth mindset to help us deliver a network for Net Zero.

You will

– Support the Engineering Manager and wider team throughout development and execution of assigned cable projects (typical scope of work value GBP700M – GBP2,000M).

– Apply robust design and engineering governance across all project phases and coordinate assurance \”Gate\” reviews.

– Lead and line manage a multidisciplinary team of project engineers.

– As a key member of Designer and Principal Designer teams, promote the safety-in-design ethos and discharge these CDM duties on behalf of SSE (reducing risk to as low as is reasonably practicable).

– Support and collaborate with other stakeholders (such as project management) to ensure technical requirements, risks and opportunities are clearly defined, communicated, and managed.

You have

– BEng/CEng qualification in appropriate engineering discipline.

– Experience in a senior/lead role, overseeing a multi-discipline team and construction project, throughout full project lifecycle.

– Strong literary and interpersonal communication skills, the ability to express complex technical issues and recommendations to senior management in a clear and concise fashion.

– Competent knowledge and understanding of electricity networks and the legal/regulatory constraints within which SSEN Transmission operates (e.g. ESQCR, CDM).

– Experience and proficient understanding of ECC and FIDIC contracts.
