We have an exciting opportunity for a CAD/CAM Engineer to join us at SSC Laser in Hixon. The position requires you to create and develop 2D/3D profiles using a variety of CAD/CAM software packages, as well as preparing nests and production plans/packs. The role would suit someone with experience of using CAD/CAM software in a similar role in a manufacturing, engineering or construction related environment.

Working within the CAD team, you will be an integral part delivering a great service to internal colleagues and our customers. Besides your immediate peers, you will also work closely with our Production and Sales teams on a day to day basis to ensure that we deliver a great result for both the customer and our business.

So that you can get a feel for the job, here is what you will be doing day to day:

  • Production of accurate drawing files for flat & folded profiles in ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • Production of accurate drawing files for tube, box section, angle and other sectional profiles in ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • Progressing orders in a timely manner to ensure customer delivery date is met.
  • Liaising directly with customers to clarify or obtain exact requirements and/or additional drawings if required.
  • Liaising with the shift supervisor or shop floor staff for any drawing related queries.
  • Working in conjunction with the production manager/team leader to ensure timely nesting, for better utilisation of material.
  • Preparing cost effective and efficient nests for 2D and 3D scheduling as and when required.
  • Driving material requirements in a timely manner in line with business cut offs and supplier lead times.
  • To carry out any other related productions tasks when required.
  • Working with the sales team to help support any drawing related queries.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • How to read and interpret technical drawings and geometric tolerances and how they relate to the finished part.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or other similar CAD software.
  • Working knowledge of any 3D software.
  • CAD/CAM software knowledge would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Engineering HNC/HND or equivalent experience beneficial.
  • 2D drawing/programming experience.
  • 3D drawing/programming experience beneficial.
  • Experience in sheet metal.
  • Experience of using CAD/CAM software in a similar role in a manufacturing, engineering or construction related environment.
  • Proven experience of reading and interpreting manufacturing drawings.
  • Ability to work at speed without compromising accuracy & detail.

Hours of work are 38 hours per week- 08:00 – 17:00 Mon – Thurs, 08:00 -15:00 Friday. Salary: £26,500 – £32,000 depending on experience.
